I do hope I am writing on the right bit here.. Going to look a tad silly if not.

Glad I didn’t have to show off my GREAT acting skills today.

Loved having a teacher in the room.

Looking forward to next year :)

Nicola

p.s. I am one of the St Gregory’s lot :)

A2 Media Studies Summer Work

Coursework Research Task

A2 G324 Advanced Portfolio

  • Research 1/2 options that you think you are most interested in – e.g. The release of a new album – how are they promoted? In this research it would be a good idea to include some analysis of actual media products -look at some effective and less effective examples.
  • What different techniques are used to market/promote these products?
  • Justify the reasons why you would choose this particular topic and why I should let you produce coursework this area.
  • What resources does the school/you have to enable you to produce a quality piece of coursework in this area?

Put information into a powerpoint/blog to keep a working document

A2 Film Studies Summer Work

Posted by: samueljohncullis | July 7, 2009 | No Comment |

Pursue one (or even two!) areas of research over the summer holiday in some shape or form.

Consider an area of film that interests you (star/director/political issue/technology e.g. 3D) and begin to read around this area on the internet so that you begin to build up a portfolio of information.  Choose one film in particular to look at.  You have the choice of the following areas:

star/performer

genre

auteur (in its broadest sense)

social, political and cultural studies

gender issues

ethnicity

institution

technology

If, over the summer, you read a book, watch some relevant films and explore some of the key web sites (such as IMDB) this will be a valuable launchpad for September.

You don’t have to go into too much depth at this stage but it would be nice if you were to come back in September with a clear idea of what you might want to study (it will also move you on considerably in your coursework).

Keep a critical research folder that you gather info in and I would like to see this folder first week back.

Also keep updating your blog!  Big Brother is always watching.

Guilbenkian Cinema Canterbury

Posted by: samueljohncullis | July 7, 2009 | No Comment |

For those of you who can get there and are interested in foriegn/arthouse/cult films (or just hate big ‘dumb’ Hollywood blockbusters) get yourself along to the Guilbenkian cinema in Canterbury.  They show some great movies which are cheap for students.  Check out the listings on their website: http://www.kent.ac.uk/gulbenkian/CINEMA.htm

Films

Posted by: elnino9 | July 6, 2009 | No Comment |

Here are some films I’ve watched recently:

- Deception

- Incendiary

- Angels & Demons (I didn’t have a clue what was going on but I enjoyed it nonetheless lol)

- Inside I’m Dancing

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but the first three are Ewan McGregor films. I’m watching a lot of his films at the moment…

I highly, highly, highly recommend Inside I’m Dancing to anyone. If you haven’t seen it, James McAvoy plays a disabled lad who meets another (Steven Robertson) who has cerebral palsy. James McAvoy is hilarious at parts but on the whole it’s a very moving film. Both thumbs up.
